TigerIT software is being used to issue and manage 100 million National ID cards in Bangladesh

Council of advisers approved the National Identity Registration Authority Ordinance 2000

The council of advisers, on the 30th March, 2008, approved the National Identity Registration Authority Ordinance 2008 and tasked the home ministry with providing the national identity cards. According to the ordinance, the voter identity cards being prepared by the Election Commission would be considered as national ID cards.

The Voter registration and ID card project is being spearheaded by the Army with a turnkey solution from TigerIT BD. The ID cards will be handed to voters before the upcoming election. Periodically ID cards will be issued to lower age groups as they become National ID cards.

Sample National ID card

The National ID card has the following features:

  • Photo
  • Signature
  • Demographic data
  • 2D barcode with
    • person's demographic data
    • fingerprint template of Right index finger
    • PKI security signature
  • Lamination

The 2D barcode ensures security of the card witch can be verified with the holders fingerprint in real time, while the PKI signature can ensure safety against any tampering. Multiple registrations will also be detectable through biometric checking. Tampering with the card or attempting to hold multiple cards will be dealt under the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPc), according to the new ordinance.
