Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed yesterday (July 22, 2008) expressed his satisfaction at successful completion of an error-free voter list with photographs, saying it is a milestone towards a free and fair election.

Voter registration field task ends on 8th July, 2008

The field level task of voter listing with photographs ends today. As of yesterday, voter registration was going on in only one area. Till July 8, the number of people registered as voters with photographs and fingerprints stood at 8.05 crore.

Bangladesh Voter registration rated as international standard

TigerIT solution is being used exclusively in this project

The ongoing voter registration process is of international standard, though some voters' names are missing on the list, says a survey funded by the UK Department for International Development (DFID).

“It is going to be a list of quality no less than that of America or England,” said Dr Mohammed Yusuf, one of the consultants for the survey titled “Monitoring Voter Listing Process and Focus Group Research.”

The council of advisers, on the 30th March, 2008, approved the National Identity Registration Authority Ordinance 2008 and tasked the home ministry with providing the national identity cards. According to the ordinance, the voter identity cards being prepared by the Election Commission would be considered as national ID cards.
